Do I require an Engineer Designed On-Site Sewage Disposal System?
In Prince Edward Island, residential building lots that are undersized or have unfavorable site conditions such as elevated groundwater table, shallow bedrock, and/or poor soil permeability may require an Engineer Designed On-Site Sewage Disposal System before you can obtain a building permit from provincial and municipal regulators. Commercial developments that do not have access to municipal wastewater disposal services may also require a Professional Engineer to design an on-site sewage disposal system that is custom made to meet their specific wastewater disposal needs. What is Involved in a Standard Site Assessment & Lot Categorization or “Perc Test”?
A Site Assessment & Lot Categorization, commonly referred to as a “Perc Test”, is a systematic field assessment that is conducted to assess the soil, bedrock, and groundwater conditions on a site, and to determine the appropriate site or lot category based on the site conditions that are observed. The lot category is determined based on the presence and thickness of permeable surficial soil horizons, and the depth to groundwater and bedrock.
How Much Does an Engineer Designed On-Site Sewage Disposal System Cost?
An Engineer Designed on-site sewage disposal system can range significantly in price depending on the site conditions and specific project requirements, and in general are more expensive than conventional septic systems. Additonal costs to consider include engineering design fees, specialized equipment and treatment systems, pump chambers, and imported fill materials for drainage beds. Does Innovative Wastewater Solutions Install Septic Systems?
Innovative Wastewater Solutions does not act as a Licensed Installer to place your on-site sewage disposal systems. We have many working relationships with local Licensed Septic Installers and will work with you to obtain quotes and to hire a reputable and experienced on-site sewage disposal system installer.
